Creative Clay Courses

Exploring your creative self with clay and drawing.

I run 2 day courses that focus on connecting with your creative and playful self, freeing you to follow your own path to expression.

Using clay and drawing materials, I will facilitate a variety of sessions giving structure and support to your free exploration and expression. The emphasis is on the process rather than on producing an end product or work of art, although this may happen.

Creativity happens when we are playing spontaneously with an open mind, responsive and connected to ourselves. Directly handling clay allows us to bypass our usual mental narratives. In the process we are likely to become more sensitive and feel able to be more fully accepting of ourselves. Talking and sharing together is an important part of the course and helps us become more aware in our creative sessions.

The whole process can be revealing, transforming and insightful.

The groups will be small. No previous clay or drawing experience is required.

Who is it for?

This course is for anyone, whether you are an artist or maker or someone who has never really considered themselves to be creative. Perhaps you are struggling with a creative block or just want to try something different and enjoy some playful creativity.

Sheila Herring originally studied with Liesl Silverstone and holds a Certificate in Person-Centred Art Therapy. She also brings her own experience as a professional maker in a variety of materials over more than 30 years.

“It was lovely to spend some time exploring my creativity without there being any agenda attached. It was a really valuable and life-affirming experience, which I thoroughly enjoyed".
"Thanks for providing a framework and giving me guidance for exploration and play with clay, I have expressed in clay what I would only have done with thoughts and words. Very relaxing setting with views to the beautiful garden and rolling hills. Having a space for reaching inside your soul and letting your creativity flow, more freely and afresh, is rare, thank you! "
"Sheila is a sensitive & generous facilitator, who skilfully creates a safe environment which I felt enabled me to reconnect with my creativity in a new and enjoyable way. I look forward to doing more work with her."
